Background
Zubier Yazdani is an associate solicitor who qualified in 2002.
Zubier was recruited by Pierce Glynn in April 2007. He previously
worked at Islington Law Centre and Hodge Jones & Allen solicitors.
He has close links with the voluntary sector having provided pro bono
advice through the Mary Ward Legal Advice Centre and the Camden Community
Law Centre of which he sits as Chair of the management committee.
Public law, discrimination and human rights
Since joining Pierce Glynn Zubier has specialised in working for young
people seeking support under the Children Act 1989. Many of these
cases involve acting for young migrants seeking support from local
authorities and where a dispute has arisen about the young person’s
age.
Zubier regularly receives referrals from the Refugee Council’s
Children’s Panel, immigration solicitors, DOST and many other
children’s rights organisations.
Zubier has also started to broaden his practice to include unlawful
detention cases.
Zubier is happy to speak to agencies who wish to have a quick discussion
about a legal problem or offer guidance on how to progress their work
with their clients. Zubier recognises the important role that voluntary
sector organisations play in the provision of advice and support to
clients.
Social welfare law
Zubier undertakes a wide range of social welfare work with an emphasis
on housing problems and resulting issues. The housing cases he has
dealt with include possession proceedings, allocations, unlawful eviction,
disrepair, homelessness and any other issues arising out of disputes
between tenants and their landlords. Zubier deals with welfare benefit
problem which arises out his housing cases.
He regularly appears at the Lambeth County Court as a duty solicitor
where he deals with possession cases.
Zubier also undertakes community care cases for vulnerable and disadvantaged
clients, some of which have mental health problems or disabilities.
Such cases include obtaining and challenging assessments and enforcing
statutory duties of local authorities and health authorities under
the National Assistance Act 1948 and the Mental Heath Act 1983.
Client Feedback
Zubier receives excellent feedback from his clients and the voluntary
sector agencies he works with.
For example:
“Zubier Yazdani is one of the most
passionate and hard working solicitors, I have ever worked with. In
my experience, I feel that he is very professional, knowledgeable
and compassionate when dealing with clients. He has changed the life
of many young refugees who were struggling to get proper support and
accommodation denied to them for different reasons. We need more solicitors
like him.”
Valbona Mejzini (Children’s advisor),
Refugee Council.
Zubier successfully represented a client in a complex landlord and
tenant dispute. She said the following,
“Mr Yazdani was exceptionally good
at managing our case, and achieved a positive outcome. We were very
glad to have found him to work for us.”
